As a senior who’s learned the hard way, I strongly recommend adding a physical wall calendar to your college essentials and dorm room essentials list. While your phone has a calendar, a visible wall calendar helps you:

• Track assignment deadlines, club meetings, and social events at a glance without getting distracted by notifications. Having deadlines physically displayed creates accountability and helps avoid all-nighters.

• Coordinate with roommates by marking important dates like overnight guests, quiet hours for exam weeks, and room cleaning schedules. The shared visual reminder prevents conflicts and awkward conversations.

• Maintain independence when your phone dies or campus wifi fails. During midterms and finals, you can’t risk missing deadlines due to technical issues.

Consider getting a large whiteboard calendar that covers 4-6 months at once. Position it where you’ll see it daily – usually above your desk or near the door.
